11 Fun Wedding Themes that Can Save You Thousands

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Chris Simeral Looking to save money on your wedding reception? Instead of relentlessly paring down your guest list or compromising in other areas, why not think about using a low-cost theme for your special day? A wedding that fits into a particular theme is often more relaxed than your typical reception. And, since theres less pressure to spend exorbitant sums on extras you simply dont need, they can often save you a bundle. Reception themes allow people to get creative with their celebration and express themselves. People often choose to base their themes on hobbies, personal interests, and dreams. Choosing to go with something like a beach theme, a Mexican fiesta, or a toga party (for a really wild example) is simple — and the food is cheap and easy. Take a look at some more themes to lessen the cost of your reception. * Roman theme: The choices with the Roman theme vary. Togas are almost always a part of the festivities. Serving fresh fruits like grapes and apples not only provides a healthy alternative to more traditional fare, its also in keeping with the typical Roman diet. Serving fresh rotisseries meats or cold cuts are great with this theme as well. You can generally serve beer and wine for this theme, and you can decorate with wreathes, garland, candles and anything else in the Roman fashion. * Fairy Wonderland: To go with this theme, you could use fairies wings, have sheer fabrics draped around you, decorate with babys breath, moss, and serve fine breads and appetizers. This theme really lets the bride bring her childhood dreams to life. Music like Enya would be nice to listen to for this theme. * Ethnic traditions: This theme requires that you choose specialty foods and decorations from the ethnicity of your choice. For example, should you choose a Scottish theme, you would listen to bagpipes, dress in the Scottish fashion and do all things Scottish. * Mexican fiesta: This fun theme can have you hitting a piata, serving popular Mexican dishes, utilizing things like Santa Fe decorative blankets for the walls, and many other things. You can play mariachi music or Spanish guitars for this theme. * Arabian Nights: For this theme you can fill your reception hall with beautiful linens and let your bridal party have costumes should they wish to. You can also serve Middle-Eastern foods or appetizers, pita bread, etc. This theme is very versatile and fun. * Greek Mythology: This theme can be geared toward a particular Greek saga or, more popularly, guests can each come dressed as a particular Greek hero of their choice. Greek foods like fresh fruits, wine, and other edibles of ancient Greece can be offered. * Hawaiian: You can use your imagination to create any Hawaiian fantasy that you wish. You can give out fresh leis or artificial ones as wedding favors. You can serve fresh tropical island fruits such as pineapples, and serve those cute tropical drinks with decorative umbrellas basically, wherever your mind takes you. * Disney: There are so many popular Disney characters that we all remember from our childhood that this theme opens up a world of possibilities. You can choose to focus on a particular character, or simply take the entire world of Disney and use it as your theme. * The Wild West: This theme can be as fun as you want. You can set up your reception area to look like an old saloon and have dancers give a tame burlesque show. This theme also allows you to serve easy-to-create entrees like meatloaf, all the way up to more expensive fare, such as steaks. As long as you stick with your theme (i.e. leave out the shrimp cocktail) you can have a great time. * NASCAR: This theme has a world of possibilities. You can decorate with checkered flags and checkered flag streamers, toy cars, or painted numbers of the different cars and drivers. If you would like, you can decorate with a particular driver motif. The best part about this theme is that it is very casual and you can serve regular foods like pizza, large submarine sandwiches, hamburgers and even chips and nachos; pretty much any food that you want. In general this relaxed type of theme applies to all sports-related themes. This theme is great for receptions where lots of sports fans will be attending. You can also opt to watch a race on a large TV during the party. * Movies: Popular movie themes like the Matrix and Lord of the Rings can be a lot of fun for receptions when the bride and groom are movie buffs. Decorations will be based on what the general movie symbolizes. For example, if you chose the Matrix, you would use computer data charts and sheets, computers, dress in all black, etc. You could serve appetizers rather than entrees for this type of theme as well. Playing the movie during your reception is a cool idea for background scenery. When it comes to themes, the possibilities are endless. Coming up with them can be much of the fun. After you have chosen your theme, you can brainstorm ideas to expand upon it for the decorations, food, activities and more. She Wants Healthier Hair

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Andy Maingam Want Healthier Hair? Chance would be a fine thing. It’s a bit late for me but my wife is an out and out fanatic when it comes to her own hair care. Mind you, I’m not complaining as she always looks terrific, but it wasn’t always like that, and it’s only been the last couple of years that she’s really been able to get healthier hair. Here’s the story. She’d spent a life time changing her styles and products, and over the years this had really damaged her crop. At one point her hair became quite brittle and split ends were everywhere. I used to tell her to leave the darn locks alone and maybe they’ll have a chance to repair themselves, but oh no, it was a can of this and a tub of that with a blob of something else! I swear, if this was a plant, it would have died and dropped of years back. Anyway, joking aside, it did become a problem for the poor gal, so we decided to seek a little professional help on getting her some healthier hair. The top guy at a local salon renowned for its excellence pointed out some facts that my wife was totally ignorant about. He said the reason she had this dry, brittle hair, was because she had used a straitening iron on it almost daily for the past few years. He said that these gadgets should not be used so frequently and when they are used, it’s essential to treat the hair at the same time so as to protect it from the heat. He also went on to say that if wavy hair bothered her so much, there is a technique that will give her dead straight hair for up to 12 months. It’s called the Japanese deionization perm, or something like that, but he went onto say that is must be done by a professional otherwise if could do more harm than good. He said my wife’s shoulder length hair would cost around $230. But before she could even consider this treatment, she had to first get her hair into better shape so as to withstand this harsh hair remedy. It was recommended that she start by getting all the split ends cut out, then dye it back to her natural color. It was then suggested that she go through a 6 week treatment program using various oils, shampoos, and conditioners. She was also advised to let the hair dry naturally during this period. Well, she just hates it when her hair dries naturally as the waves become curls and her hair becomes very big as a consequence. She thinks she looks like a bimbo if she doesnt straighten, flatten, spray, and pin it tight to her head. Blimey, women and their hair eh! This hairdresser told her that if she followed his suggestions, within a couple of months or so, she would have a semi-permanent ’straight’ look to her hair. He promised her there would be no more split ends, no waves or curls after washing, and a healthy looking shine (at an optional cost, called coating apparently!). But apart from getting a great looking head of hair, it would be in much better condition too. But, she must use the correct products and treatments to maintain it and not keep chopping and changing. Honestly, what a kafuffle, but as far as I was concerned, if she was happy then so was I. I mean, there’s only so much a poor bloke can take each day, listening to his wife winging on and on about how horrible her hair is. I just hoped that once her crop was sorted out she wouldn’t start on about nose jobs, or eye lifts etc. Anyway, she did follow the suggested treatment for healthier hair, and got pretty excited about it all as she went along. At this moment in time, it looks absolutely terrific and she’s now on her second Japanese deionization perm. So long as she continues to protect her mop from unnecessary wear and tear, uses a swimming hat when in the pool, brushes gently, and doesn’t use metal-pronged hair combs and brushes etc, then we should be ok. Hey, I’ve become a bit of an expert on women’s hair. Haven’t I? Hmm! Who’s next! You would definitely wish to celebrate it in the best possible manner filled with pomp and show. Wedding is the biggest day of your life. You want the day to be perfect. The ABC Of Knitting

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

By Robert Thatcher You may never have attempted to sew anything for yourself since your schooldays or again, you may have abandoned the whole idea after one or two disappointing failures. The good news is that sewing equipment and dressmaking patterns are highly developed now than ever, so it has been made easier for you to start, whether you wish to make basics for yourself and your family, supplement sophisticated ready-to-wear with simple additions of your own, or eventually progress to the heights of the designers patterns. Whatever the reason, you will have the satisfaction of expressing your own ideas the pattern you purchase may be available to many, but the fabric you choose and perhaps the trimmings that complete it are exclusive to you. Take for example the case of knitting. This is, basically, a special way of creating marvelous creations from a ball of yarn. Through this process, the yarn or thread is converted into cloth. Basically, knitting can be made either manually, where the hands create remarkable cloth with the help of knitting needles, or mechanically, with the use of knitting machine. Knitted Fabrics In knitting, a different kind of fabric is used, known as the knitted fabrics. All knit fabrics are made of a series of interlocking loops. This makes them more flexible than woven fabrics. While all knits have stretch, they vary considerably in amount and direction of stretch. The factors that influence stretch are the yarn and the structure of the knit. There are two basic knit types: weft and warp. The first derives from age-old techniques of hand knitting. The second, a modern innovation, is the product of complex machines. Records show that the first knitting machine was invented in 1589. Todays advanced versions produce an incredible range of fabrics from sheer lingerie knits to bulky sweater knits. Basic Composition Knit fabrics may be tubular or flat. Some flat knits have perforated lengthwise edges comparable to selvedges in woven fabrics. Complex stitches or special finishes sometimes obscure a knit structure, making it hard to tell whether a fabric is knitted or woven. To establish which it is, pull a thread from one crosswise end. If lops show, the fabric is a knit; if a fringe appears, it is woven. Knits vary in stretchability. Just how much a knit stretches crosswise should be determined before you buy it. If the pattern you have chosen is marked for knits only, it will probably supply a gauge, but for only one of three stretch categories slight, moderate, or super stretch. Shopping for Fabrics In knitting, it is extremely important to choose the best knit fabrics available in the market. A successfully chosen garment fabric will complement the pattern design, flatter the wearer, perform according to expectations, and be of good quality for the money. Here is a list of some tips that you need to employ when choosing for the best knit fabric: 1. Weave should be firm. You can test this by scratching the surface; if the threads shift easily, the garment seams may be inclined to slip or develop holes around the stitching. 2. Weave should be uniform. Hold it up to the light and check for any unusually thick or thin areas. The light test will show up any weak spots or imperfections. 3. Print colors should be even There should be no white (undyed) spots showing through them, except in areas that are clearly meant to be white. Getting a perfect knit fabric is one of the chief, if not the paramount, reason for learning how to employ knitting at its best. Hence, if you are considering on trying some knitting, try to learn first how to identify a good knit fabric by using the guides for buying knit fabrics. Getting your Message to Stick - Tips on Creating the Stick Factor

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

By Stuart Crawford During my travels in the Sales and Marketing game, I have come across a number of sales and marketing trainers that are huge supporters of what I call throwing mud at the wall and seeing what sticks, this maybe interpreted as the Sticky Factor. Sure sending out thousands of emails or fax broadcasts in a spray and pray approach may be a practice that your small business leverages as way to attract potential leads and eventually new clients. You need to have this as one of your clubs in your business golf bag. Does it work on its own? Or is it just a waste of ink in someones fax machine, or another message in their SPAM filter or postcard in the trash can? Not only does this strategy keep you at your desk praying for a response, it is also quickly becoming a huge obstacle to many small businesses as a marketing strategy, where over 120+ million phone numbers in the United States are already on their national Do Not Call List. Mass fax and email marketing tactics will soon become obsolete. For Example, the Italian government has outlawed all forms on unsolicited electronic, verbal or mobile marketing tactics; this may eventually expand to other countries around the globe as consumers wrestle with clutter of their inboxes or fax machines and the expenses related to receiving marketing from unsolicited sources. Now it is important to step out of your comfort zone, get up from behind your desk, and take a new approach to creating new revenues for your business, before your competition does. Instead of taking a Spray and Pray approach, change your thinking so that you create a Stick Factor. This methodology is based on developing long term relationships with business associates, clients, community leaders, and so much more. Here are some tips to creating the Stick Factor to attract new opportunities in your day to day business life. Sign up as a member of your local Chamber of Commerce or Board of Trade. Once you sign up, get involved, and learn the names of the President and others in influential positions within these organizations. Once you are on a first name basis with them, leverage your relationship with them by offering your talents to their cause. Give! Give! Give! Give your time and your talents to local organizations, again this can be the Chamber of Commerce or a non-profit organization. As you may or may not have noticed that I did not say MONEY! Giving money is good, however, how do you create the Stick Factor by just giving money. Give your time and your talents and you will create the Stick factor that people will remember you. Be involved in the business community, besides your local Chamber of Commerce there are other organizations that can you can become involved in. Check out local networking groups, business associations and coffee meet-ups. Attend their events on a regular schedule and be active within these groups. The more you are involved, the faster you will remember everyones name and their services, and most importantly, they will remember yours. Keep in regular contact with your business associates. You must keep in regular contact with everyone you meet, through an educational based (not sales based) newsletter, a quick email from time to time to see how they are, a quick coffee meeting or lunch. Learn their birthdates, so you can send them a quick email on their birthday (This works well with clients as well). Be faithful to your friends, when you have a great relationship and your business partners are providing great services to your clients, be faithful to them. It is important not to continue to shop around on the services that your trusted alliances are providing. Stick with them through the good times and through their own struggles. One of the most important factors in creating the stickiness is that you are the one that your partners, friends, alliances, and business leaders think of when they run across someone that can use your services or products. You want to be the one that they say to their friends or clients call these guys and these guys only, no one else comes close to them. The Stick Factor is not something that happens overnight, it sometimes can take almost a year before you see the rewards. Keep at it; be involved and active in your local business and volunteer community. If you are uncomfortable about stepping out of your shell, seek the assistance of someone who has the experience to work with you. The old line about networking comes to mind hereBE MEMORABLE! Take Advantage of Cell Phone Family Plans

Monday, February 25th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Rhon_Dafin]Rhon Dafin If credit cards have supplementary cardholders who can share the credit limit, cellular phone plans also offer shared plans more commonly known as family plans. This type of plan offers the sweet promise of value for money for as small an amount as $10 to $20 more per month that a single subscriber is used to shell out. The value lies in providing two lines of cellular service combined with the newest cellular phone deals usually offered for free. Other freebies include cellular phone accessories such as belt clip, hands free headset, in-car chargers and more. Cash back rebate incentive programs are also offered. Since these usually have to be claimed by a specific date, it is always advised to review the rebate information. Basically, the allotted minute allowances are shared between the subscribers. However, modifications on this notion have been introduced by companies. This is the reason why it is important to read the details of the family plans offered very carefully. There are five leading cellular companies that offer family plans, namely, Verizon’s Family Share, Cingular’s FamilyTalk, Sprint’s PCS Family, T-Mobile’s Family Time and Nextel’s Team Share. Verizon has the unlimited Night and Weekend home airtime minutes when calling a cellular phone that is also on the Verizon Wireless Network. Night hours start at 9:01 PM to 5:59 AM on Weekdays. On Weekends, it starts at 12:00AM Saturday to 11:59PM Sunday. Cingular offers Rollover Minutes. This refers to the buildup of unused minutes which can be used on the following months. This expires after a year. This is a great deal because it is often difficult to track the number of minutes consumed in a month. Rollover minutes will certainly maximize the value of money spent because the unused time can still be consumed within a year. Sprint has the capability to take advantage of its nationwide fiber optic network through the PCS Fair & Flexible America. Long distance calls are free when the calls are made on its nationwide PCS network. It is always a drawback on the budget to incur long distance charges. This offer is very convenient for business people who are always traveling. T-Mobile has the Nationwide Digital Roaming. This prevents the consumer from obtaining expensive roaming charges on calls within its national coverage network. Calls between T-Mobile to T-Mobile have unlimited minutes and doesn’t consume the family monthly allotted minutes. This is a very sweet offer because on top of the monthly minutes that can be made on calls on other networks, one can certainly take advantage of the unlimited minutes for calls that need more time for idle talk without being pressured to cut talk time because of expenses. Nextel also offers Free Nights and Weekends. This corresponds to Mondays to Fridays at 9:00 PM to 6:59 AM and Fridays at 9:00 PM until Monday at 6:59 AM. The Group Connect service links a group of up to 25 people on a single call without consuming the allotted cellular allowance for the month. This is similar to having a conference real-time without expending the allotted time. It is always wise to review the details of the plans offered by such companies before availing of one. The only setback of such plans, especially those that offer rebates and free cellular units, is that one may be tied up to a year or two contracts which are difficult to disregard as easily [http://www.your-cell-phone.com]your-cell-phone.com is a free information site that offers articles and resources on Cell Phones. What Most Marketing Gurus Don’t Teach You

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

By Debbie LaChusa If you’re not getting the results you want from your marketing, there’s a good chance it’s because you’re missing one key ingredient. An ingredient that can make the difference between successful marketing and dreadful marketing. The difference between your business making it or breaking it. You’re probably doing “tactical” marketing. So what exactly does that mean? Isn’t marketing, marketing? The answer is, no. There are two kinds of marketing: strategic marketing and tactical marketing. And, there is a distinct difference between the two. It’s what most marketing “gurus” don’t teach you As I look around, most of the “marketing gurus” I see are teaching tactical marketing. It’s not that that’s bad … it’s just that it’s only part of what you need to succeed. They’re teaching you how to write copy. How to publish an ezine. How to market your business by writing articles or by issuing press releases. How to market by teaching teleseminars or doing speaking engagements. Or even how to network effectively. Yes, these are all very valid ways to market your business. So, what’s the problem? Without a well-thought-out marketing strategy behind them, your chances of finding success with any or all of these marketing tactics is limited. So what exactly is strategic marketing? Just like it sounds, strategic marketing means you have a strategy behind your marketing. A “game plan” if you will. It’s what you do BEFORE you start marketing It involves spending some time BEFORE you market to determine exactly what you want to accomplish and setting some goals for your business. It means establishing an objective for every marketing activity you undertake. With strategic marketing you take the time to answer some basic questions about who you are marketing to and what message will be most effective. You take the time to really understand the people you are marketing to and how your product or service solves a problem or fills a need they have. You put all these puzzle pieces together to create a strategy and a plan to grow your business. Yes, that strategy may involve things like writing effective ad copy, publishing an ezine, article marketing, writing press releases, and maybe even doing some speaking or networking. But here’s the real difference … You now have a game plan driving your use of these marketing tactics. You know what you want to achieve. You know who you’re trying to reach. You know where you can find them. And you know what you must say to persuade them. And, most importantly, you have a marketing plan that ensures you’ll stick with your marketing consistently enough to actually move the needle toward your goals. Bridal Beauty Secrets - Hair Care and Nail Care

Monday, February 18th, 2008

By Natalie Aranda The wedding ceremony is the most special and important moment in a woman’s life. Since the very moment after the bride and groom have officially announced their engagement, wedding planning starts. Planning for the wedding is often taken cared by an experienced wedding planner - from wedding flowers, wedding music, wedding cakes, food. The bride will prepare months before for her big day to look picture-perfect. Bridal makeup tips, along with the proper hair care, skin care and nail care are the basics to look and feel that way. Hair care continues as an ordinary activity for women who desire healthy and radiant hairs, but it needs particular attention in accordance to the different wedding hairstyles. It is highly advisable to make the definite selection based on your wedding dress, face shape and personality. Diet and lifestyle reflect in both your skin and your hair too. The healthier your diet, the more beautiful you will look. Hair care should include a treatment with olive oil applied only on the hair’s ends at bedtime and washing it off the next morning. Trim your hair every 4 to 5 weeks even if you are growing it for an updo, and do not brush it when it is wet. If you are fascinated by a undo or long hairstyle and dont have time to grow, you can create instant beautiful hair styles with hair extensions. You should always wash, condition and moisturize your hair, including your human hair extension every 2 to 3 days. Your hair extensions will not receive the natural scalp oils so you will need to add moisturizing to your routine. The other option is to wear a lace front wig which could give you a beautiful long hairs too. Lace front wigs come in different length, color and styles, so choose the one that fits your wedding gown best. If a hairstyle highlights your face, elegant fingernails will highlight your hands. You will have so many opportunity to show off your nails on the wedding day. Nail care should start at least a few weeks before the wedding day if its not part of your beauty care routines. Nailtiques is a relatively new yet very effective therapeutic system proven to prevent nails from peeling, breaking or splitting. Love is a Decision

By Gayle Santana NOTE: If you are in a relationship where you are suffering abuse or endangerment of yourself and your family of any kind, this article is not for you. Get help, now! My husband and I have survived being married for 32 years. It was not 32 perfect years by any stretch of the imagination. We are as opposite as two people could be. We married young and added 5 children to the mix. Here are some of the decisions we made along the way that have helped us to stay together. -TAKE AN ASSESSMENT OF WHAT IS GOOD. A few times in our marriage, divorce crossed my mind. If you are married long enough, it will! But I took an assessment of the man I have in front of me. When I weighed the pros and cons I realized that what I had wasnt half bad. You have to know that every relationship has its cross to bear. A good friend of mine who I consider a serial divorcee once said, If I had known then what I know now, I would have stayed with my first husband. You see, you will have those times where you question why you should stay in this marriage but do keep in mind that everyone, no matter how perfect their relationship looks from the outside, has experienced some great degree of difficulty and thats putting it quite mildly. -ALL THINGS WILL NOT BE EQUAL. If you expect things to be equal in a relationship, youd better think again. You have to think in terms of giving. Am I doing my part? Is there anything I can do to make things better? And when you dont have much to give, ideally, your mate will fill in but keeping a scorecard wont make for a good relationship. -USE THE LANGUAGE OF LOVE AND RESPECT. Ive heard people speak of their mate in such derogatory terms that its no wonder things arent working. Check your conversation with and about your mate. Speak positively. You may begin to see your mate in a totally different light. -TAKE ACTION. Date Night, love talk/notes/calls. New relationships work because of the effort expended. When I first suggested date night on a weekly basis my husband protested. Now he looks forward to it as much as I do. So even if its a one-sided effort, dont worry, action is infectious. Eventually your mate will be inspired to contribute. -LOOKING/SMELLING GOOD Trust me what you see as your flaws, most of the time, do not really matter to your mate. Be flirtatious, be sexy. They make sexy clothes, underwear and lingerie in EVERY size. And smile! It makes wrinkles null and void! -GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND TO LET YOUR MATE KNOW YOU CARE. I do 99% of the cooking in our home. But I really dont mind because my husband is always appreciative, complimenting me on everything he enjoys and always thanking me for doing it. I let him know that I appreciate the things he does too. He fixes and builds and I never have to touch the yard. But every couple brings different interests and skills to the marriage. My sister and eldest daughter are the ones with a toolbox. My youngest son is a chef so hes the chief cook in his relationship. You have to appreciate what is in your world and dont compare it to so-called norms. -FORGIVENESS The ability to let go and move on is key. You must judge your relationship by your own rules. Even if those rules dont match the societal norms. Hillary Clintons husband publicly humiliated her in the eyes of many. Hillary made her own decisions as to what do about it and divorce was not her answer. Dr. Wayne Dyer says Be independent of the good opinion of others. This is particularly true in marriage. Tonight, as I write this, my husband cooked dinner, a rare but delicious occasion. Included were home-made lemonade, a hot towel to wipe my hands afterward and an order to sit down and do nothing because I deserve it. I could write a book about all the gory details that went on between the wedding and this loving relationship you see before you, but you should know its kind of like childbirth. You experience all of this horrific pain and after you see that sweet little baby, you forget all about what you went through. Make a decision to love the one you are with today. I did and I dont regret a moment of it. Gayle Santana has been married for 32 years. She a mom, grandmother, successful entrepreneur and an aspiring writer. Please email her at gayle@pvsnetwork.com.
